When....

When you flop in one area, look to another area for positives. I weighed myself. This weekend may catch up with me but not at this point, unless I already gained from it and would have actually lost more. I am down 8. Which translates.... I have been around this mountain before. I am down 54.5 from my high weight. My first goal is to get to Florida weight which is down 75. Only 20.5 to go! Then I'll set another goal.

Oyyyy

Was a miserable wheat 3 days! Had a charter school conference on thursday night and Friday. They had appetizers set out and without even thinking I picked up a small plateful and was yakking with someone and munching away at the same time. I looked down as I took my last bite and realized I had consumed a samosa with flour in it, a bruschetta with bread and I don't know about the coconut shrimp. Not even conscious of it. Next day breakfast was muffins, cinnamon buns and cookies. Ach! I skipped it. Lunch was a boxed lunch with a sandwich and pasta salad. I was very hungry and looked at it and chose to eat it. I went from there to a scrapbook crop and again the wheat was every where. sooo... I ate some. It was mixed with chocolate and caramel in such delicious ways that I just chose to. But..... I am now aware that I am not in enough of a habit to do it with out planning and providing my self with alternatives. I could easily have taken a lunch and snacks for both events. Next time. Meanwhile. Back to the no wheat for me. Thank God I am not celiac.

Back to work

Well, the first day back after a week off and it was busy. For some reason I was really hungry all day long. Don't know why. Of course, someone had a birthday celebration and there were pumpkin tarts to celebrate. Nope, I did not give in. I am still hungry, I think I will go find a snack or a tea or something. Or maybe not. Tired might win over hungry. I think today is day 7. Onto week two and now to get the sugar in order or out of order.

What Can I Say?

I can hardly believe it. Day 5. Days 1 - 4 were not without blips. Decided I wanted "something" so went to McDonalds to have something. Hmmm...... not much without wheat so ordered a McFlurry on the spur of a moment. I asked for smartie and ended up with oreo in the wrong size, even after checking at the cash window on my order. I did not check it when they handed to me but when I went to eat it....... should I ...... shouldn't I...... should I..... I hate to pay for something and not eat it and was not willing to go through the line up again. sooooo....... gave it to my son and he enjoyed it.

Got into some "hidden" flour and goodness gracious....... the cravings hit and I felt like a maniac just wanting "something" ! something bread, something crackers, something toast, something anything!! I could not figure out why, so I went back and traced all the food I ate and googled and googled to find the ingredient list of some things. I finally found it. Yikes. One tiny bit of flour listed in like fourth or fifth ingredient in something I never thought had any in it. Oy yoi yoi..... I can't believe it. Lesson learned. I think the biggest shock was how it affected me. A huge surprise.

Day Three

So far, so good. Nothing serious. Some cravings, some habits, some crankiness. Can't believe how much I had wheat woven into my previous diet. Amazing.

Just Letting You Know

I am sure you know the struggle we all have to keep at this battle. We never really stop fighting it. Health is my aim.
I have been reading a book called Wheat Belly - Lose the Wheat, Lose the Belly. Eventually this book recommends that you got to low carb as well as no wheat. I don't think that I am able to do that at all, but am giving the no wheat a shot combined with the GI diet, so that the refined stuff remains out the window too. There are many reasons for this choice as the book so clearly states. I won't go into them here.
So far, so good. No major withdrawal symptoms. I have been expecting withdrawal symptoms but have had nothing more severe than cravings and a slight headache. Hopefully this will continue. Habits are the hardest to deal with. I have had to plan ferociously in order to not turn to my staple of toast and peanut butter and crackers and cheese. Simple carbs are sooo easy to turn to. I chose to implement this after Thanksgiving dinner cause of the cornbread dressing that has flour in it and well as the gravy with flour in it. And because I was off for the week after Thanksgiving. I did not want every body at school to be subject to my withdrawal symptoms if there were to be any.

here is to day 2 almost completed. I will let you know how it goes.
