Sticking to the Weight-Loss Program

Here are some tips for staying on track:

  • Write down what you eat. If you haven't been keeping a food journal to lose weight, this is the perfect time to start. People who write down the details of their diet and exercise habits are twice as successful than those who don't. (Don't forget portions and serving sizes!)
  • Look for little ways to save calories. Using mustard instead of mayonnaise or sugar-free sweetener instead of a packet of sugar will eventually add up to lost pounds.

  • Stick to the plate method. Banes advocates the plate method in which one-half of your plate should be vegetables, one-quarter a starch (whole grains preferred), and one-quarter lean protein. If you must go back for a second helping, only take vegetables.

  • Build exercise into your day. It's great if you can work out for 30 minutes or more, but try adding in more exercise where you can. Park slightly farther away from your destination to get more walking in; take the stairs instead of the elevator.

  • When you reach your weight-loss goal, you will want to celebrate, but Banes cautions that you must still be careful about how you do that. The last 10 pounds will come off if you work at it, and you will see that goal weight on the scale. But giving up your diet entirely will surely push up those pounds again. You now need to move into a new phase: learning how to maintain the healthy weight you worked so hard to achieve.

The following was from an article talking about cutting too many calories.....fad dieting. You can't cut so many your body goes into starvation mode and stores fat to preserve you! Just do it reasonable! You will lose better and have more chance for it to stay off.

I knew someone that would cut to 400 calories a day before a special meeting. She put her body into a diet distress and always struggled so hard to get weight off and keep it off.

Let's do it right! Let's do it healthty!! Let's do it!!

  • Coming to Terms With Calories
Remember that calories are not your enemy. They are a vital part of a healthy and energetic life. "Your body needs a certain amount of calories just to sustain proper function," says Lummus. This is why fad diets that force you to cut out too many calories leave you feeling lethargic, shaky, and ready to give up.
Instead of opting for a fad diet, find a
reasonable eating and exercise plan that allows you to lose one-half to two pounds per week. There is evidence that people who lose weight at this rate — by making better nutrition choices, eating smaller portion sizes, and exercising — also have the best chance of keeping it off. Make a plan to adopt new healthful habits that you will be able to stick to indefinitely, and always allow yourself a little wiggle room for special occasions.

Make the calories count!

-One hormone that often needs reducing is insulin. It spikes after you eat fast food. Chronically elevated insulin has been linked to Alzheimer’s, cancer, obesity and type 2 diabetes. It comes down when you eat more fruits and vegetables which ‘feed’ your body rather than just filling it up with empty calories. There’s a big difference.

When I read this I thought about the calories I take in.....wanting to make sure my daily intake is full of good choices and not sugary or carb fillers!! So much disease associated with eating bad!!!

It's working!

Okay! I have left the 1*0’s behind hopefully FOREVER!!! Don’t know why I let myself get there again!!! Hope I have learned my lesson! I have to give myself a 5 lbs window that I will not go over!!!! Makes sense! Why don’t I do it!!!

Lose the weight.....eat sensible....weigh every day and make sure that I am within range.....enjoy vacations and special events within reason but hit it when I get home.

I am 1*9.4 this morning!! So excited! Hope to leave the 1*0’s by the middle of October. Wow that’s just 5 weeks away...... I will have to average 2 lbs per week. Hard but doable if I exercise I think.

I intentionally put the asterick in place of the ten's place. I don't care if someone knows my weight. I just don't want you if you have more to lose to be discouraged. I realize that I am closer than some of you to my goal weight....however I also know how hard it is when you get closer. It seems to want to cling to you!

My hat goes off to anyone trying to lose sensibly. I encourage you to keep going!! It will work!

If there is anything I can do to help please let me know. I am with you!
